Documents required for opening your offshore account

To open your bank account, you will need to follow standard procedures. These are the documents that the beneficial owner will have to provide:

Certified or uncertified copy (as applicable) of a valid passport;
Proof of the source of funds to be deposited;
Original utility bill such as electricity, water, or phone;
In some special cases, an original letter of recommendation from another bank (less than 2 months old);
In some cases, your resume.

Some banks may request additional documents and incur extra costs to issue them. This depends on each client, situation, and the type of company for which the account is required.

Why would I want an offshore account?

The first thing you should know is that having a bank account is not illegal. Of course, you should not use this account to hide undeclared money, as this would be illegal and could lead to severe fines. However, it makes sense to diversify and keep some of your savings in a secure offshore account, in different currencies. This way, you will have additional security against expropriation attempts and account closures due to crises in your home country.

Why should I pay to open an account?

In many cases, it is only possible to open an offshore account through an intermediary who handles all the procedures and paperwork. Of course, you could travel to the country and handle the account opening procedures yourself, but we are here precisely to save you that headache.

What is the Common Reporting Standard (CRS)?

Information exchange is just one of the various tools that states use to end banking secrecy. There are several relevant agreements regarding this, the main ones being FATCA in the European Union and the CRS in most OECD countries. It is important to note that some countries have signed but have not yet implemented such agreements. There are also bilateral information exchange agreements in several countries, but ultimately, it is just a manual inquiry in case of suspicion which, in practice, rarely pays off, as it requires the full name and other details of the person under investigation.

How do I verify my place of residence?

To verify your place of residence, in most cases, you will need to provide a water, electricity, phone, or internet bill. Other forms of verification are generally not accepted.
